Illustration and Narrative
VORMATOR CHALLENGE
ahh illustration and narrative. a subject so interesting but at the same time also scary. on the first week we were already introduced about Vormator Shapes, where you create a series of characters through the limited given shapes, 8 shapes to be exact. we are asked to create a unique character by using these sets of shapes. by doing this students actually learn how to compose a shape and how to arrange a shape according to their creativity to create a unique character.
as a design student, i was always thought to think outside of the box and to think creatively. This exercise has really helped me improve my composition and colour choosing for the character
it wasnt that hard to come out with a character but it is hard to create it on Adobe Illustrator as i was not used to using it, i was exposed more on photoshop during my study days and now too actually, but this is a great chance for me to brush up my skills on Ai so that i can create beautiful illustrations in the future !
i played around with different shapes and different sizes of the shape so it could actually create a different volume or different look on the character. i never thought i needed this because i had so much fun creating the characters while i was stressing out about other assignments.
These are the final outcome of my creature i decided to create a two head beautiful coloured dragons with a centipede-like body
Rhythm and Movement
it doesnt matter if you watch anime or not everyone knows about the infamous "Naruto Run"
although this is just a picture, it clearly shows the action of naruto running and how the shapes of landscape changes with the focal point
the landscape that changes together with the moving focal point, blends well with the character that is moving at a fast pace, which really made the animation look like its going fast.
Landscape
we were assigned to create a landscape illustration out of vector shapes with the application of background, mid ground and foreground.
Decisive Movement
Decisive Moments are impacted by a story and you as an audience. Whether the moments are based on real life events or fictional narratives, human psychology is easily affected by moments like these. As a designer, you are to capture these moments and translate them into a single piece of animated artwork
i was ambitious enough to make a gif out of the scene from harry potter where Harry saved Draco from the fiendfyre in the room of requirement, but i knew that i wasn't skilled enough to make all the details so i decided to keep it simple and sweet.
i even sketched out a few perspectives of the scene but i was quite disappointed that time is not what i have at that moment.
i decided to choose a movie that was quite a hit to which was Moana. No one could ever tell me that Moana isn't the cutest and best animated movie Disney has ever produced. sure there might be some competitors but the details and precision of scene in Moana made me appreciate the movie more.
this was my final product after so many tries of making the gif work it was frustrating at first but after i got a hang of it it became easier.
but one thing for sure my gif isn't as smooth as i wanted it to be, the arms were a little choppy i would say but overall it was a great experience and a great learning opportunity
Graphic Novel
i enjoyed this assignment the most because i could literally use my creativity however i wanted. i get to create my own story, my own characters, my own plot and my own style of graphic novel. when drawing a human, ever since i started the design journey i have always drawn my characters without eyeballs. i really liked it that way. without the eyeballs you could still see the emotions portrayed by the characters. some people may find it freaking or scary but i love characters without eyeballs hahaahaha. i sound crazy when i say it but art is about something unique right
the characters were a bit tricky to pull off as i have never paint digitally in my life using photoshop, i wanted to try out procreate but I'm too broke to buy an IPad :D so i used whatever tools that i have with me. bought a drawing tablet and tried to make it look decent.
I had reference of colours of characters from the internet to match and have that watercolour tone on the characters. i learned the word "PATIENCE" when i was doing this assignment. i didn't like to do something that takes up a long time, i will become impatient as i want to see the results as quick as possible, but this assignment really did put me in place and i really do admire and respect people who do animation and other sorts of media artist out there and just artists in general. the patience you need for this is just wow.
this is my final product of assignment 3. i was kinda proud of what i made but i feel it could be better as this is my first time with digital painting i think i learned a lot from this experience and without this assignment i wouldn't understand the pain and suffering that artists have go through to make a piece of art work that looks incredible with its details and colours.
these are my favourite artwork progress pictures that i took hence the several number of pictures :D
every good thing must come to an end
Every good thing must come to an end. I would like to personally thank Ms Anis and Mr Faizal for their hard work and knowledge that they have given to me. We always see the hard situation of the students during this hard times of online learning but no one really appreciates the effort that the teachers have to put in order to have a smooth class through out the semester and i really appreciate ms Anis and mr Faizal for doing so. i really do.
For ms Anis, the day you complimented my character it really made my day. I became more motivated to finish my assignment 3, there were days that i wanted to just shut down everything, due to the workload of 3 different subjects but the kind words you gave me through text and the help you gave means a lot to me and i will cherish it forever. seems so dramatic but sometimes its just the littlest things am i right?
this module has taught me a lot and developed me as a person and this online learning made me appreciate the things that i have in life as some people out there may not have the things that i have today.
So thank you so so so so so sooooo much for this learning opportunity! and 10/10 would do it again.
